Laser bleaching Laser bleaching is a photo dynamic teeth whitening procedure that is the most sophisticated method of whitening in the world. It involves one appointment and the results are instant. So long as you look after your teeth well, experience has shown that the benefits of laser bleaching can last for years. Home bleaching Home bleaching involves wearing very thin, transparent plastic trays which are molded to your teeth. These hold a bleaching agent in contact with the tooth surface. They are normally worn at night for approximately one week. The active agent in the bleach is usually Carbamide Peroxide. This is a product that quickly breaks down to Hydrogen Peroxide, the bleaching agent that lightens the teeth. How effective is Laser bleaching and Home bleaching in whitening the teeth? Both methods of bleaching do not make the teeth as white as chalk. If it did the teeth would not look natural. Usually the whitening is subtle. However, a difference would be noticed between upper teeth that have been bleached and lowers that have not. The degree of colour change varies from person to person depending on the initial degree of discoloration and usage time of the bleach. How long does the bleaching last? This varies depending upon your individual circumstances. However, teeth can still become stained and they will continue to age in a normal way with the passage of time. As mentioned before, the laser whitening can last for years. If you opt for home whitening, we recommend keeping the trays and obtaining new bleach stocks from BOH. This will enable you to repeat the whitening periodically. The Australian Dental Association suggests once a year is appropriate. The trays will continue to fit your mouth for many years in most cases.. Links
