Implant Dentistry

This is a high-technology technique for the replacement of missing teeth. It involves a dental implant being placed to permanently replace missing teeth. With this technique a single missing tooth or several teeth can be replaced at once. Dental implants form a secure base for replacement of teeth, restoring full function and renewing self-confidence and peace of mind.

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is inserted into the jawbone to replace one or more missing teeth. Implants and their artificial teeth "crowns" closely mimic the look and function of real teeth. They are an appealing alternative to dentures and bridges.

Some advantages of dental implants are that they can withstand greater biting pressure than dentures, they prevent hollowed or collapsed cheeks following tooth extraction and they are usually more comfortable than dentures. Dental implants do not usually require special cleaning products. Just like natural teeth they are cleaned with dental floss and brushed with regular toothpaste.

A single tooth implant restoration provides the best functional and aesthetic possibilities available in dentistry today. For multiple missing teeth, the long-term success of dental implant treatment for this situation is well documented and your BOH dentist can assess the suitability of this treatment to meet your needs.

In most cases the implant procedure occurs in three separate stages:

  1. The implant, which is like an artificial tooth root made of titanium is inserted
  2. A connector or abutment is attached to the head of the implant
  3. The artificial tooth or "crown" is attached to the abutment

It may take about 12-16 weeks from stages one to three. However, depending on your situation advances in technology may allow you to have natural, beautiful looking teeth much more rapidly.
